Archive for December, 2011

2011 was a great year for sports (aren’t they all?). So with the new year just around the corner, here are TSB’s New Year’s Resolutions for some of the biggest people/organizations in the world of sports. If you have any suggestions, please comment in the box at the end of the article and we’ll make sure to add them.

Carlos Beltran/Drew Brees – To get the growths/birthmarks removed from their faces, ears, or wherever they may be.

Metta World Peace – To get his name tattooed across his back like Vince Young.

Millions of fantasy football leagues crowned their champions this week, and I have a feeling Drew Brees QB NO was on a high percentage of those teams. With 11 playoff TD passes (2,5,4) there wasn’t another more consistent, dominating performer in the essential Week 14-16 span. Aaron Rodgers QB GB had a huge day on Sunday as well (5 TDs) but he takes a back seat to Brees when it comes to fantasy playoff MVPs. Both stud QB’s should be off the board before the middle of the 2nd round in next year’s drafts.

Let’s take a look at the top performers for the championship week:

Week 16 Fantasy Studs:

1. Aaron Rodgers QB GB 283 passing/5 TDs/0 INT, one of the best seasons from a QB ever.

2. Cam Newton QB CAR 171 passing/3 TDs/65 rushing/1 TD, what a year for the rookie QB

3. Jordy Nelson WR GB 6 rec/115 yards/2 TDs

4. Jared Cook TE TEN 8 rec/169 yards/1 TD, might be worth a look on draft day next year

5. Drew Brees QB NO 307 passing/4 TDs/2 INTs, broke the single season passing record with a game to go Read the rest of this entry »

The Pre Season Battle of Los Angeles starts Tonight!

Los Angeles Clippers V. Los Angeles Lakers will be on NBA TV at 10:30pm/7:30pm; If you’re in the greater Southern California area, the game will be on both Prime Ticket and Fox Sports West.

Tune in and see how many times DeAndre Jordan & Blake Griffin dunk. Marvel at Mike Brown’s new look Lakers.

The two teams will face off again on Wednesday night.

With the CP3 saga finally over, I have to admit that I am mildly interested in the NBA this year. Not to the point where I’m going to make sure to tune in for all the Christmas Day games or anything. But I will check the box scores and standings every once in a while. This is a big step for a person who hasn’t really cared about the NBA since Shaq and Lil’ Penny got worked by “The Dream” back in 1995 finals.

There are a few reasons why I’m actually interested…..

Fantasy Basketball is the easiest way to care about the NBA. Plain and simple. Every morning (or night if you are slightly obsessed), you check the box scores of games in which random players that you only care about for one reason, are in. Seriously, WTF would I be doing looking at the “Jazz 98 Kings 89” Box score for? BECAUSE I HAVE TO KNOW HOW MANY BOARDS AL JEFFERSON HAD!!!! I also have to find out why he only played 23 minutes. “Oh my god, what happened to him? Oh shit, did he blow out his knee again?”…will always be running through my mind. Drew Brees QB NO owners rejoice! The guy has turned it on during the fantasy playoffs and is single handedly carrying teams further into the post-season. Let’s take a look at who shined in the semifinals this week

Week 15 Fantasy Football Studs:

1. Drew Brees QB NO 412 passing/5TDs/0 INTs, when you get 40 points out of your QB you can sit back, crack a beer and look forward to the ‘ship.

2. Calvin Johnson WR DET 9 rec/214 yards/2 TDs, Megatron follows up a stinker with an awesome performance

3. CJ Spiller RB BUF 167 total yards/9 rec/2 TDs, career game for the Jackson RB BUF replacement.

4. Matthew Stafford QB DET 391 passing/4 TDs/0 INTs/1 FL, huge day for teams that pair the two Detroit studs

5. Roddy White WR ATL 10 rec/135 yards/2 TDs, such a huge week from a guy who was drafted early Read the rest of this entry »

Round 1 of the fantasy football playoffs is in the books. Unfortunately, my squad lost after going up against Drew Brees QB NO, Ryan Grant RB GB, Laurent Robinson WR DAL, Detroit DEF etc. These 4 alone combined for 87 fantasy points in my league. After a poor plug-and-play of Alex Smith QB SF I just couldn’t overcome such a deficit. I’ll be back next year though, can’t win ’em all.

If you’re still in it, there’s only 4 teams and 2 weeks left to go in the fantasy football season. Before we move on to the info that will get you to the ‘ship, let’s take a look back at the studs and duds of Week 14

Week 14 Fantasy Studs:

1. Maurice Jones-Drew RB JAX 136 total yards/6 rec/4 TDs, this oompa loompa saved his best game of the season for the right time

2. Rob Gronkowski TE NE 6 rec/160 yards/2 TDs, set the record for most TD receptions by a TE, it’ll be between him and Jimmy Graham TE NO as far as the #1 TE off the board in 2012

3. Marques Colston WR NO 7 rec/105 yards/2 TDs

4. Julio Jones WR ATL 3 rec/104 yards/2 TDs

5. Shonn Greene RB NYJ 187 total yards/ 1 TD Read the rest of this entry »

In most standard leagues Week 13 marks the end of the fantasy football regular season. If your league championship goes into Week 17, lead a mutiny and have your commissioner removed next year. The last week of meaningful football is Week 16, everyone with half a brain knows that.

If you were on the fence going into this week, these are the players who could have put you over the hump:

Week 13 Fantasy Studs:

1. Cam Newton QB CAR 204 passing/1 TD/0 INT/54 rushing/3 TD/1 rec/27 receiving, now THAT is stuffing the stat sheet

2. Percy Harvin WR MIN 175 total yards/8 rec/2 TD

3. Shonn Greene RB NYJ 114 total yards/3 TD

4. Pierre Garcon WR IND 9 rec/150 yards/2 TD

5. Chris Johnson RB TEN 157 total yards/2 TD, way to wait til the end of the season to show up. Read the rest of this entry »
