Cam Newton will be doing a lot of running again this season. Maybe you should rank him as your #1 QB?

Hook (@HookTSB) has been dishing out a ton of Fantasy Football advice so far this pre-season, but I felt as if it was my time to give a different prospective.
Fantasy football is changing and the game is moving towards an air assault. If you look at multiple websites, there are a lot of wide receivers in the top 25. The league has gone to a platoon style running game by interchanging running backs. Spreading the field with five wide receivers and throwing is one of the latest trends. Today I am going to break down a few strategies and also list some of my sleepers in this upcoming football season. After reading this article you should have a great game plan and dominate your fantasy football leagues!
*DISCLAIMER* These opinions are based on a standard fantasy league ( 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, Flex, TE, K, D/ST) and a ten man roster.
My best advice going into this years draft would be to trade down to a later pick and try to get something out of it. In my big league this year, I traded my third pick spot with the last pick. We swapped out round 1-4 and round 8. So I moved up in round eight as well by swapping my third pick for the tenth. Read the rest of this entry »
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are masters of the “Screen Pass”
Over the past decade, the NFL has transformed from a ground and pound league, to an ultra heavy passing league. In 2002, four QB’s threw for over 4,000 yards. Last year ten did. And of those ten, three threw for over 5,000 yards (Eli Manning had 4,933). We also saw Drew Brees break Dan Marino’s record for passing yards in a season, with 5,476.
When you see those gaudy passing statistics, you would figure that the QB’s are taking seven step drops and just letting it fly, 50 yds down the field. While there are some teams that do have QB’s that are able do that, the short passing game is where they rack up the yards. With the evolution of the slant route (Jets fans LOVE this pass pattern), it has essentially taken over as a run for some teams. If you have a wide receiver who can get off the line quickly and cleanly, then cut to the middle of the field, it’s an instant six to ten yard gain if he holds on. But while that pass play can lead to big gains, there’s nothing like the screen pass. Read the rest of this entry »

If you saw last week’s Total Sports Babes column with Ronda Rousey, you didn’t have to call Ms. Cleo to figure out who was going to be featured next. Alex Morgan is the starting forward for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team, and she just so happens to be drop-dead gorgeous. Female soccer players are close to my heart, and Alex Morgan may be my favorite of all time. Hat tip to Sports Illustrated who somehow talked Alex Morgan into posing in nothing but body paint. Check out some pictures of this week’s Total Sports Babe, Alex Morgan: Read the rest of this entry »
NASCAR PRESIDENT MIKE HELTON PRESENTS A PLAQUE TO JEFF GORDON COMMEMORATING HIS 85TH WIN IN THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES ADVOCARE 500 AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY ON SEPT. 6 IN HAMPTON, GA. (CREDIT: CHRIS GRAYTHEN/GETTY IMAGES)
From the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” of Bristol Motor Speedway, to the 1.54-mile quad oval track of Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is the site of NASCAR’s next stop in the 2012 tour. All three series will compete this weekend for what should hopefully be some great racing. What a perfect way to enjoy Labor Day, and the unofficial end of summer. Last year, weather was the name of the game for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In a rare Tuesday race, Jeff Gordon battled his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Jimmie Johnson, to capture win No. 85. A win this weekend by any of the HMS drivers would match the Wood Brothers’ track record of 12 wins at AMS. Cool stat huh? Read the rest of this entry »

You read that right. Partner. As if Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari of MTV The Hills fame were some type of gay couple. I knew the two were an item, but wasn’t sure what their status was. Google search “Jay Cutler wife” and see what comes up. Partner. It turns out they started dating in 2010, got engaged in 2011, broke off the engagement, got pregnant and re-engaged, and had baby boy Camden Jack Cutler in August of 2012.
While I never watched The Hills and had to look at Wikipedia to get all that information about their relationship, even the most anti-MTV guy must admit Cavallari is pretty hot. Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth crash at Bristol Motor Speedway
Two days after the IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, it isn’t the race winner, Denny Hamlin, who is garnering the talk of the race, it is instead three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart.
In case you missed out on the beating and banging at Bristol on Saturday night, I posted video below from the Official NASCAR YouTube page. Read the rest of this entry »

While his pit strategy was unique, it was the move on the track that got Denny Hamlin and the FedEx team their first career Bristol win. With less than 40 laps to go, Hamlin made a slide move on Carl Edwards, who then tapped his rear bumper, but was able to hang on and pull away in Saturday’s IRWIN Tools Night Race. This is Hamlin’s third win of the 2012 season. However, the coolest state of the night is that Hamlin’s win gave the #11 it’s 200th ever victory.
With Saturday’s victory, Hamlin is now tied with Johnson, Brad Keselowski, and Tony Stewart for the most wins in 2012. However, Hamlin didn’t clinch a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup this evening. The only drivers to do so were Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, and NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Read the rest of this entry »

Joey Logano drives under the checkered flag to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series auto race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in Bristol, Tenn.
While the hometown boy, Trevor Bayne, captured the pole for the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday night, it was Joey Logano and the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing that ended up in victory lane.
I guess you could say it was a little NCAA rivarly. Bayne being from Tennessee and Logano from Connecticut, and if you ever followed NCAA Women’s Basketball, then you know the two state schools are rivals and most definitely play each other in March.
The win would be Logano’s first at Bristol Motor Speedway and his sixth victory of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series, a single-season career high. This is also Logano’s 15th victory in 103 Nationwide starts. Read the rest of this entry »
