With a speed of 134.911 mph, 28.232 seconds in his No. 24 Chevrolet, Jeff Gordon won the pole for Sunday’s Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“The car got off the corner really strong, but as tight as these times are, you never know,” Gordon told PRN after his lap. “To go out and get a pole on a non-restrictor (plate) track, we haven’t done that in awhile. So this felt really good.”
This is Gordon’s 72nd point career pole and his second this season. He has started on the pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, three times previously. Gordon will be joined on the front row by Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Kyle Busch.
Heading into the second race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Gordon is currently last in the points standings just 47 points behind points leader, Brad Keselowski.
