Carmelo Anthony Scores On Own Basket
As if the New York Knicks couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start to the season, the Knicks lost to the lowly Charlotte Bobcats at home tonight. To make things worse, “superstar” Carmelo Anthony, made the bonehead play of the night. Down by 4 with under two and a half minutes to go, Melo managed to score on his own basket. It was such a pathetic play.

When is #LOLKnicks going to start trending on Twitter?

H/T to ESPN for the video.

I am fully behind the Knicks tanking for Wiggins. Oh wait, they don’t have any draft picks in 2014.

I think they only have draft picks in odd numbered years.

they have no picks next year, only a 1st rounder in 2015, no picks in 2016, and only a 1st rounder in 2017. Knicks front office is the exact opposite of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

all I can say is LOL

I don’t know why superstar is in quotes. Sure, he made a laughable play but he’s still a top 5-10 basketball player in the world.

It’s in quotes because he’s a one dimensional player and knicks fans are the only ones who think he’s a superstar. He’s an elite scorer, but that’s it.

As much as I dislike Melo at the moment, he is still a superstar. In order of players I’d want on my team, it goes LeBron, Durant, Paul, Rose, Curry, Love, George (yes, he’s made the leap), Harden, Anthony. If you want to argue there are only 5 superstars in the league and roll with that top 5, I’m OK leaving Melo out of the discussion, but he’s the 2nd best scorer in the NBA who grabs a decent amount of boards, and has been a stud on USA teams.

Superstars don’t shoot 42% avg 6.5 boards and 3 assists. That’s a black hole. He’s a scoring machine, but a one dimensional player. He gets those 6.5 boards per game by default due to playing 38 min per game. The 17 the other night is a huge outlier.

Durant’s stats are a lot like Melo’s, and I assume there’s no argument that he’s a superstar, right?

          • Earl

Durant’s stats are getting better year after year. He’s up to 8 boards a game, 4.5 assists, shooting 50% from the field, 41% from 3pt & 90% from the line. Holla when Melo comes close.

          • Hook

Melo 28.7 ppg last year. Durant 28.1.
Melo 6.9 rpg last year. Durant 7.9.
            Melo 38% 3pt% last year. Durant 41.5%
All of those are very close. Check their stats per 36 minutes. They’re even closer, as Durant is on the court more. You’ve been hollered at.

Durant has better shooting percentages because he’s better than Melo. Not debating that at all. There’s a decent gap between the 2nd and 10th best player in the world, but in a sport with 30 teams you can pretty much say everyone in the top 10 is a superstar.
