Last Saturday night, NASCAR fans saw Toyota dominate at Richmond International Raceway for the first part of the race but Chevrolet ended up in Gatorade Victory Lane. While it was a Busch brother’s front row for the start of Saturday evening’s NRA 500 from Texas Motor Speedway, it was Kyle Busch who was celebrating in victory lane afterwards.

Busch took advantage of a late caution to regain the lead and held off a fast and thirsty for a win, Martin Truex, Jr., for the final 19 laps to win the NRA 500 and completing the weekend sweep.

This was the second time of the 2013 season and eighth in his career in which Busch has won the NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup race in the same weekend.

“These guys have me a great (car), but if it wasn’t for my pit crew, the most awesome group ever,” said Busch.

With all track activity at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday rained out, including qualifying for the Kobalt Tools 400, Brad Keselowski will start the race from the starting position. The top 36 cars in the field are set based on the 2012 points, giving the No. 1 spot to the points champion.

“It’s a really good deal,” Keselowski said. “I guess that’s one of the perks being the [2012] champion in the first few races. This is the first time I’ve ever had decent starting position from a rainout.

If weather clears up on Saturday, the Sprint Cup Series has two scheduled practice sessions.

The National Weather Service predicts less than a 10 percent chance of rain for Saturday and Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »
