Last Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway, Denny Hamlin spun Joey Logano while he was racing Jeff Gordon for the lead. Hamlin claimed Logano had cut him off, and Logano vowed to get him back.

Cue to Sunday afternoon at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, were Hamlin and Logano were racing yet again for the lead when they got together coming out of corner and wrecking themselves.

“He probably shouldn’t have done what he did last week, so that’s what he gets,” Logano said. Read the rest of this entry »

Last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kasey Kahne had the dominate car but was beaten by Matt Kenseth. On Sunday afternoon, Kahne was looking to win after the missed opportunity. Kahne was able to take advantage of a mistake Brad Keselowski on the final restart to grab the lead and never look back. The mistake helped Kahne pull away to a 1.7 second lead over pole sitter, Kyle Busch.

Kahne would lead a total of 109 laps to capture his first win at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile”. Read the rest of this entry »

Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth crash at Bristol Motor Speedway

Two days after the IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, it isn’t the race winner, Denny Hamlin, who is garnering the talk of the race, it is instead three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart.

In case you missed out on the beating and banging at Bristol on Saturday night, I posted video below from the Official NASCAR YouTube page. Read the rest of this entry »

While his pit strategy was unique, it was the move on the track that got Denny Hamlin and the FedEx team their first career Bristol win. With less than 40 laps to go, Hamlin made a slide move on Carl Edwards, who then tapped his rear bumper, but was able to hang on and pull away in Saturday’s IRWIN Tools Night Race. This is Hamlin’s third win of the 2012 season. However, the coolest state of the night is that Hamlin’s win gave the #11 it’s 200th ever victory.

With Saturday’s victory, Hamlin is now tied with Johnson, Brad Keselowski, and Tony Stewart for the most wins in 2012. However, Hamlin didn’t clinch a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup this evening. The only drivers to do so were Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, and NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Read the rest of this entry »

Joey Logano drives under the checkered flag to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series auto race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in Bristol, Tenn.

While the hometown boy, Trevor Bayne, captured the pole for the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday night, it was Joey Logano and the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing that ended up in victory lane.

I guess you could say it was a little NCAA rivarly. Bayne being from Tennessee and Logano from Connecticut, and if you ever followed NCAA Women’s Basketball, then you know the two state schools are rivals and most definitely play each other in March.

The win would be Logano’s first at Bristol Motor Speedway and his sixth victory of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series, a single-season career high.  This is also Logano’s 15th victory in 103 Nationwide starts. Read the rest of this entry »

This is the first time since 2007 at Chicagoland Speedway that Mears has started on the pole. However, even though Mears is on the pole he will not get the Coors Light Pole Award or have a place in the 2013 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway.

It’s been 15 years since a winner in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series lead every lap  from the drop of the green to the checkered flag. Ron Hornaday was the driver’s name and Louisville Motor Speedway was the track.

On Wednesday night, an unusual night for a race, it was Timothy Peters and the No. 17 of Red Horse Racing to put his name in the history books. This was the first race on Bristol Motor Speedway’s new surface, which cost approximately $1 million dollars and promised to bring back the beating and banging of Bristol.

There was no early cautions, which cause some fans to be all up in arms on Twitter. The first caution didn’t come until Lap 81 when Chris Jones hit the wall.

With 41 laps to go and Peters still leading, Keystone Pole Winner Cale Gale tried to pass Todd Bodine on the backstretch but made contact, cutting Bodine’s rear tire and sending him into the Turn 3 wall bringing out the yellow.

Then with six laps to go, Cale Gale spun and hit the wall bringing out the caution.
Fans would see a green-white-checker finish and in the end Peters would celebrate his second win of the season.
In victory lane, he said that this win was an “awesome feeling.” Peters is the current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points leader.
The next race for the series is August 31st at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

It seems like it has been ages since NASCAR hosted a Saturday night race. It doesn’t get any better than Bristol Motor Speedway. 500 miles of beating and banging at what has been nicknamed the “World’s Fastest Half Mile.” I can already feel the excitement.

Last year, Brad Keselowski was able to capture his third win of the season and his second since breaking his ankle in a testing accident on August 3rd at Road Atlanta. Keselowski grabbed the lead on a restart with 80 laps to go and never looked back. The victory all but assured at least a wild-card spot in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup, a first in his career. Can Keselowski do it again?

Seven drivers can secure a spot in the Chase this weekend at Bristol. Greg Biffle can clinch with a finish of 28th with no laps led, 29th with at least ne lap led and 30th with the most laps led. The scenario for Matt Kenseth is eighth with no laps led, ninth at least one lap led and 10th with most laps led. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. laps a spot in the post season with finishes of sixth with no laps led, seventh with at least one lap led and eighth with the most laps led. Jimmie Johnson will punch his Chase ticket with a victory or second-place finish while leading the most laps. Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr. and Clint Bowyer also can reserve spots in the Chase but are not yet in charge of the their own destinies. The magic number is 97 points ahead of the 11th-place driver’s total.

And in other NASCAR news, Danica Patrick makes her NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at Bristol Motor Speedway and fourth start of the 2012 season. She finished 19th in the track’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race in March.

I hope you all enjoy the great racing at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. Below you’ll find the TV schedule for the weekend, which will actually start on Wednesday with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
