It’s never too early for Fantasy Football. After talking to a friend from D.C., a list was compiled of the Top 10 Picks for the 2013 Draft. But after 6 tries at writing this, I realized one thing: this year it’s a crap shoot, although your #1 pick is unanimous…. Read the rest of this entry »

“Bow down to the paid one.”

This 2013 NFL off-season has shaken up the league in a hurry. As always, some teams more active than others, but some mediocre teams have transformed into serious contenders. Teams continue to unload cash prior to the draft in hope of making a run for the Lombardi. Who has made the biggest splash in Free Agency? See for yourself.

Bye Bye, Titus Young!

 Titus Young benched

Titus Young, the latest player to test the patience of an NFL team and exploit the dangers of having a young firecracker on your roster. He’s the poster child for the term “character risk.” Starting with his collegiate days at Boise State, Young has never been short of words…or actions for that matter.  He was suspended for the majority of his Sophomore year at Boise State after starting a fight with a teammate, an action that would happen more than once during his career. After Detroit took a chance on him in the second round of the 2011 draft, many teams sighed in awe as the Lions took him fairly early for being such a “character risk.” Fans and management around the NFL thought for sure he would have dropped to the latter rounds of the draft, go undrafted, or get lucky and get taken by previously troubled NFL teams (Bengals, Raiders, etc.). In training camp of 2012, Young was kicked off the field and shortly suspended for sucker-punching and initiating a fight with teammate Louis Delmas. In November of 2012, Titus was sent home several times for conduct detrimental to the team. According to Lions coaches, Young was purposely lining up in the wrong position, running only the routes he chose, gave up on routes, and finally got into a heated, public confrontation with Lions wide receivers coach, Shawn Jefferson. Titus was then deemed inactive for the Thanksgiving game and put on injured reserve for the rest of the season. He was then told to stay away from team facilities entirely. Huge Week 9 as many favorites fell, leaving newcomers to rise and thrive in college football glory. Going 12-7 Week 9, I was a little bold on my underdog picks. I underestimated the shear strength of Notre Dame and overestimated the power of Florida, hands down. Kansas State, Oregon, and Notre Dame are the only teams that deserve to be in discussion for playing against Alabama (as of right now) for the National Championship. Week 10 leaves a more conservative approach as I don’t see many upsets happening, but some shakeups in the future BCS rankings. Dynastys still alive and well.

Teams noted in BOLD are my picks for the week

His wife still isn’t hot, but Matt Ryan has turned out to be an absolute stud so far this season.  Currently ranked 2nd overall behind Drew Brees, Matt Ryan is paying dividends for fantasy managers who picked him up this season.  While I didn’t say to avoid him completely, I advised against spending anything earlier than a 5th round pick on Matty Ice in my Fantasy Football Primer and I’m man enough to admit that I was wrong.  Ryan has elevated his game in 2012 and seems to be an elite option as far as QB goes. If you don’t know, now you know… Ramses Barden exploded on the Fantasy Football scene Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.  With Hakeem Nicks out due to injury, Barden got the start and boy did he make the most of it. 9 receptions, 138 yards, and the game isn’t even over yet.

A 3rd round draft pick by the New York Giants in 2009, Ramses Barden hasn’t had much of a chance to shine.  Buried deep in the depth chart, the 6’6 receiver had 16 career receptions going into Thursday night’s game.  With the performance he’s put on so far tonight, one can only wonder what was taking Tom Coughlin so long to get this kid in the game?

While the Carolina defense looks awful tonight and Eli Manning is playing like a man possessed, the sheer size of Barden makes him an intriguing pickup in all fantasy leagues.  If Hakeen Nicks is to miss a significant amount of time, this guy becomes an immediate WR2 worthy of starting in all Fantasy Football leagues.  Waiver wire systems in most leagues make Ramses Barden a Free Agent that anyone can scoop up.  What are you waiting for?

Sorry fellow members of the Total Sports Blog Bloggers Bragging Rights Fantasy Football league, I got to him first.  You snooze, you lose.

Week 3 NFL Fantasy Football Focus

September 20, 2012 by

It’s week three in the NFL and so far it has been a very unpredictable year.  Your routine players are having off games, the players you put at the bottom of the list are blowing up.  What do we do?  Just like I said last week, do not panic and stick to your guns for at least four weeks.  Let your top ranked players show what they have.  After reading this article you should have your bench situation set.

Here are my top 10 rankings for week two Fantasy Football at each position Read the rest of this entry »

Playing the Waiver Wire: If Joe Flacco is available, GRAB HIM!!!!!!

It’s week two in the NFL and I feel people are already starting to panic over who to start.  Yesterday I was tagged on Facebook asking “JP should I start Jay Cutler or Cam Newton?”  Here is my first bit of advice in Fantasy Football.   Stick to your guns for at least four weeks.  Let your top ranked players show what they have.  I told him exactly that and he thanked me for not putting Jay Cutler in last night.  Cam Newton is drafted in the  1st or 2nd round for a reason.  I also brought to his attention that RGIII had a great day verse the coach-less New Orleans Saints.  If your stuck looking at your roster with who to start this weekend, my week two pre-ranks will come in handy.

Here are my top 10 rankings for week two Fantasy Football at each position.

Quarterbacks
1.  Tom Brady –  He has not lost his last five home openers.  This is also the biggest spread this weekend.  Brady should finish at the top.

2. Cam Newton – Look for Superman to bounce back week two.  RGIII had a great game vs Saints and I look for Cam to finish even stronger. Read the rest of this entry »
