With last nights 88-84 loss, Kevin Durant and the top seeded Thunder were eliminated from the playoffs.
Last season, Oklahoma City reached the NBA Finals before losing to the Miami Heat in 5 games.
The Thunder’s chance of making it back to the finals took a serious blow in the first round when Russell Westbrook tore the meniscus in his right knee. Without Westbrook, the Thunder just didn’t have enough offensive firepower to get past Memphis’ tough defense.
Russell Westbrook might be the most scrutinized player in the NBA. He averaged 23.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 7.4 assists per game this season, and was stilled ripped apart by virtually every basketball analyst out there after every game.
However, after watching the Thunder play without him, I’m pretty sure that Westbrook’s haters are all hiding under rocks now.

No Russell Westbrook, no problem.
At least until the NBA Finals, but that’d be a major problem even with a healthy Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook tore his meniscus (a small tendon in your knee) during the second quarter of Wednesday’s night game against the Thunder. (video of Russell Westbrook injury after the jump)
There is no timetable for Westbrook’s return, but the average recovery time from this type of injury is 6-8 weeks. However, Metta World Peace underwent a similar surgery a few years ago, and returned in just 13 days.
Even without Westbrook, the Thunder are still the favorites to win the Western Conference.

It has been made abundantly clear here and on Twitter, that I think the NBA is the worst product of the four major sports. But that doesn’t stop me from knowing what’s going on in the NBA. A prime example is that I know if you lined up all 360 NBA players, James Harden would be way down the list of players who “look like” an NBA All-Star. I also know that James Harden’s post game threads are just out of this world.
Harden has the uncanny ability to pull off the “black guy hipster” look. There are so many guys in the NBA trying too hard to pull this off and it just doesn’t work. But for James Harden, it does.
After seeing the outfit he wore during the Game 2 post-game presser after the Houston Rockets lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder, I knew it was time. We need a James Harden “Swag-o-Meter” for playoff post-game pressers. Read the rest of this entry »

Earlier this morning, it was being reported that Yankees’ second baseman Robinson Cano was leaving his longtime agent Scott Boras. I was surprised when I first saw this, because Boras is known as the most powerful agent in baseball, and has a reputation of getting his clients the highest contracts possible, and Cano will be entering free agency after this season. Minutes later, it was being reported that Jay-Z, through a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), was opening a talent agency called Roc Nation Sports, and Cano was their first client.

There is a lot of talk about how The DREAM Team would beat todays Team USA. I generally think it would be a good game, and I will break down how I think a 7 game series would go.

When it comes to fashion, you may have noticed something different about today’s NBA stars. Flat brimmed hats and tall-t’s are out (sorry, Allen Iverson). “Nerd swag” is in. Read the rest of this entry »

Chase, Paul, Iman and Derrick.....Can you feel the excitement?!?!?
Chase Budinger, Derrick Williams, Paul George and Iman Shumpert. Seriously?
The NBA couldn’t even get the best player from the city hosting the All-Star Game to participate. They couldn’t get a former dunk contest champion. They couldn’t even get “Superman”.
You have…..1 unheard voice message…..”Hey Dwight, it’s David Stern. Uh, listen…I know you are probably going to bolt from the Magic Kingdom after the season, but could you help an old buddy out and at least give Magic fans the feeling that there’s still a 1% chance you are going to return by demolishing 3 scrubs in the dunk contest next week? Thanks Dwight, call me back ASAP.”
