On Tuesday, NASCAR announced penalties for the No. 18 crew. The No. 18 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-2.3A (improperly attached weight) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book.
Dave Rogers has been fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Oct. 3. In addition, car chief Wesley Sherrill has been placed on NASCAR probation until Oct. 3.
No points were taken, so there is no change in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings. Wonder why?

While Tony Stewart may have won the Coke Zero 400 presented by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night, it was his qualifying efforts that had NASCAR officials issuing a penalty. While Austin Dillon may have won his first NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday night at Kentucky Speedway, many of NASCAR’s fans are thinking it should be stripped after the No. 3 of Richard Childress Racing was found to be in violation of the NASCAR rulebook. After winning the Feed the Children 300, Dillon’s black No. 3 was found to be too low for NASCAR’s standard’s.
On Monday, NASCAR announced penalties for the No. 3. The No. 3 car of RCR was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1(actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20A-12.8.1C (body height requirements – car failed to meet the minimum rear car heights) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book.
Penalties included Danny Stockman, Jr., Dillon’s crew chief, to be fined $10,000, while owner Morgan Shepherd and driver Austin Dillon have been penalized with the loss of six championship owner and driver points, respectively. In addition, Stockman and Robert Strmiska, the car chief, will remain on probation until December 31.
Dillon now trails points leader Elliott Sadler (his Richard Childress Racing teammate) by four points.

While he may have finished second at Iowa Speedway on Sunday afternoon, Elliott Sadler can definitely say the last two weeks have been rough on him. He was involved in a wreck at Darlington Raceway that hurt him in the points and now NASCAR has penalized him and the No. 2 team following post-race inspection at Iowa Speedway.
On Tuesday, NASCAR announced that the No. 2 Chevrolet was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20A-12.8.1C (body height requirements- car failed to meet the minimum rear car heights) of the 2012 NASCAR rule book.
These penalties do not require either Elliott Sadler or Luke Lambert, Sadler’s crew chief, to be put on probation, it did result in a $10,000 fine for Lambert and the loss of six championship owner points to DeLana Harvick and six championship driver points to Sadler.
Hopefully Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 ONE Financial team can regroup and have a great weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Sadler is now 34 points out of first, which is currently being held by Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.
