Marcos Ambrose, left, poses with team owner Richard Petty after winning the pole for Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma.

While he never had won a Coors Light Pole Award until last week at Michigan International Speedway, Marcos Ambrose is definitely getting use to starting on the front row.

On Friday, Ambrose won the top spot, knocking off Jimmie Johnson and holding his breath to see if Jeff Gordon, a nine time road course winner, could knock him off.

Ambrose’s speed was 95.262mph while Gordon’s was 95.067mph.

”I thought it was a really good lap,” Gordon said. ”Hey, you’ve got to credit where credit is due: Marcos laid down a heck of a lap and we came up just a little bit short. We knew that was going to be a tough lap to beat.”

Ambrose is definitely one to watch on Sunday in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. Coverage begins with the Countdown to Green at 2pm EST. Will Ambrose be able to finally get the win at Sonoma or will he endure another heartbreaking lose like he did last year. Tune in to find out.
